The Descendants of [G2.5A] William McGREGOR and [G2.5B] Helen GRANT in detail:
[G2.5A] William McGREGOR was the youngest child of Gregor McGREGOR and Margaret CATTANACH. He was born 22 Mar 1802 at West Morven and according to extracts from the Glengairn parish records was christened on 26 Mar 1802. He died at Green Hill on 15 Jun 1891 and was buried in the Kyneton cemetery. In 1838 William was married to [G2.5B] Helen GRANT who was born 1818 in Scotland and died 3 Jan 1910 in Green Hill. She was buried with husband William in the Kyneton cemetery.
No records seem to exist providing reasons for William and Helen's emigration to Australia but it is known that they left Aberdeen Harbour aboard the brig "Jane Geary" on 29 September 1852.
William (49) was described in the passenger list of the "Jane Geary" as "a ploughman", with wife Helen (34) along with daughter Helen (12), sons James (10), John (7), William (5) and baby daughter Elizabeth (16 months) together with an Anne McGREGOR (19) "spinster" - presumably this is a niece of William who later became Mrs. J.R. DOUGLAS.
After a 114 day (16 week) voyage, the "Jane Geary" arrived in Victoria on 20 Jan 1853 and shortly after, baby Elizabeth died.
Eventually William, Helen and the rest of the family settled in the Green Hill/Kyneton area on a 120 acre property in 1857 and this became the McGregor home for the next 66 years.
