Welcome

The purpose of this blog is to record the history of the McGregor people that settled in the Glengairn area as well as that branch of the family that eventually emigrated to Australia and who are my direct McGregor ancestors.

I have tried to be as accurate and as factual as possible given (at times) the paucity of information and differences in perspectives of sources used. Any errors that may have crept into this blog-site are entirely of my making. I would welcome constructive comments on how these can be remedied and the site improved.

The particular spelling of the name McGregor has been used over the various other (and perhaps the more traditional) spellings of MacGregor, M'Grigor etc as this is more consistent with our family name as it has come down over the generations.

Much of my interest in the McGregor family history was stimulated by the research carried out by my Aunt Marion Gairn (McGregor) Lloyd. With her passing many the sources of the information contained herein have been lost. Regrettably, many of the contributors to her research will now go unrecorded.

I would like to thank Dr Sheila Sedgwick, the author of many fine books on Glengairn and its people and communities, for her warm hospitality and for a most wonderful afternoon spent investigating the places and the people of the past.

My great thanks and appreciation also go to Hugh Mackay and Gordon Bruce, both of whom devoted much time and enthusiasm in showing me around the Glengairn area, sharing their considerable research and telling me tales of a time now long gone.
